School Council

The School Council is made up of representatives from all age groups in school. Members are elected by their peers and they work together to ensure the children's voice is heard by staff and governors, especially when important decisions have to be made. Elections take place each term and pupils are encouraged to present a manifesto to their class in support of their candidacy.

Regular meetings are held in school and each year the school council meet with the governing body to introduce themselves and ask questions. Governors are always impressed by the thoughtful questions and the way the school council members present themselves.

The school council also raises money and makes recommendations on how they would like to see that money invested. One of the most impressive investments they have made is in sponsoring a child through school in Africa. Nomsa Mtisi has now become an integral part of our school the children love to receive the regular updates on her experiences in school in Kenya.

School Council Latest News

The School Council have had their first meeting of 2016 and are planning their first event- a fundraiser for our sponsor child. The children sponsor a girl called Fatumata, from Guinea Bissau. She is our second sponsor child, having sponsored Nomsa until she reached the age of 18.

Other priorities for the year ahead include new play equipment, re-organising the play time toy rota  and planting the outdoor area.

Last year the school council  decided that school should “go green”. They  asked Mrs Hanson to contact NYCC regarding the recycling facilities available to us and  ordered recycling bins for each classroom.  We are now  recycling our paper and cans/plastic which are  collected every fortnight as part of the Glasshouses kerbside recycling.

Bird Boxes– The children ordered bird boxes using the Morrisons vouchers.  Each Class now has their own bird box to decorate.  These will be put in the garden areas of the school grounds.  The School Council have decided to buy bird food for these areas and have asked me to ask parents if anyone would like to make us a simple bird table to put in the garden area. Recently the AONB have visited school along with Nidderdale Bird Watchers and we are all avidly bird spotting.

Vegetable Box– The School Council have decided to have a growing area in the small wooden container in the back garden.  They are planning what they will plant in this area.

School Council Social Evening

The School Council held their annual Social Evening in October raising over £250.  The children approached the PTFA who undertook the catering for the event.  The School Council acted as waiters and waitresses on the evening and especially enjoyed running the Raffle.

Christmas Fair

The School Council helped to organise games and stalls at our very popular Christmas Fair.  School Council members helped out on the night serving cold drinks in our Christmas Cafe, helping with the chocolate fountain and running various stalls.  The evening was very well attended and Father Christmas took time out of his busy schedule to pop  in to see the children.
