Glasshouses School PTFA

Summer Term 2017

Glasshouses School has a thriving Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA) which is open to all parents, carers and teachers.

Through its fundraising efforts, the PTFA has raised thousands of pounds over the years. This money has been spent on improving equipment, buying computers, funding coaches and class trips, resources and facilities in school and to fund activities that extend the children’s experience beyond the National Curriculum.

But our PTFA is about much, much more than just fundraising. The PTFA exists to provide closer links between home and school, and is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal. Socially, we enjoy an annual Christmas Fair and May Day celebrations and an end-of-term barbecue or fun day.

We extend a warm welcome to all so please help to support our children and school by joining the committee or offering help at one of our events or fundraisers.

Recently we supported the village May Day event and ran several stalls on the village green. It was a great day much enjoyed by all who attended. We pledged money towards the upkeep of the village defibrillator. We are currently organising the replacement of the sand pit lid and are looking forward to our next fundraiser, a clothing collection on 12th June.

In the Spring Term we held a bake sale on 6th April when parents were in school for the Medal Ceremony and Easter Egg Competition. The sale went extremely well and raised funds for the PTFA. We funded a Class 1 trip to Skipton Castle, paying for the coach and entry to the castle. The children enjoyed the trip and learnt lots about living in a castle. We have committed to funding one trip for each class for this academic year.

In the Autumn Term we helped with the School Council Fundraiser, October 20th and we held our popular Christmas Fair on December 2nd. We were delighted to raise over £1000 to boost our funds- money is spent on our priorities for the year. These currently include covering the cost of school trips, buying extra learning resources for classrooms and subsidising book and PE bags.

If you receive the weekly newsletters from school, look out for further details of forthcoming events. Alternatively contact school and Mrs Hanson will pass on your contact details. We look forward to having you on board!

The Bag2School initiative has been a successful fundraiser for the PTFA for several years, raising over £700 in 2015-6. Twice a year (usually in the Autumn and Summer terms) we fill bin bags with second-hand clothing, shoes, belts and handbags. The company that collects the bags from us sends the items for re-use or recycling and pays us per kilo collected. This is an easy way of raising funds for the school and we ask parents to ask other family members, friends and neighbours to save their unwanted items for us too.

PFTA 100 Club
The PTFA 100 Club was launched in March 2012 and currently has over 60 members. In its years of operation it raised over £2000 towards PTFA funds. Members have a chance of winning one of three cash prizes every month by paying a subscription of just £1 per month.

The 100 Club is open to all parents, guardians, family members, staff, board members and friends of Glasshouses CP School. Members must be over 16 years of age. So you can help us reach our 100-member target by inviting grandparents, aunties, uncles and neighbours to join in.
